Jill Adams, Community/Parent Representative:

 

Mrs. Adams has been both a parent and a past PTA President at Apperson Elementary since 2004.

 

In 2009 Mrs. Adams began her career at Apperson working as Instructional Aide in the Computer Laboratory bringing such programs as PowerPoint and Coding to the school curriculum. In 2016 she transitioned into her new position becoming Apperson’s first Community/Parent Center Representative.

UPDATE ON FIFTH GRADE CULMINATION

Fifth Grade Culmination Update

Fifth Grade Apperson Parents, due to new District Guidelines the Fifth Grade Culmination will now take place on Tuesday, June 9th at 10:00 A.M. for both Fifth Grade Classes.

PROVIDE VERIFICATION DOCUMENTS FOR: (Copies will be made by office when you pick up your packet)

Proof of Residence
Acceptable documents: utility service contract, property tax payment receipts, rental lease agreement, official government mail, current pay stub

Proof of Student’s Age
Acceptable documents: birth certificate, baptismal certificate, passport, court order
Identity Verification of Parent/Guardian/Educational Rights Holder/Caregiver (“parent”)
Acceptable documents: student’s birth certificate, baptismal certificate, adult’s government-issued photo identification (driver’s license, department of motor vehicle identification card)

Proof of Immunization
Please find included for your reference, the Parents’ Guide to Immunizations Required for School Entry. Students must have all vaccinations by August 1st to be enrolled.

IF AVAILABLE/APPLICABLE PLEASE ALSO PROVIDE COPIES OF:
Transcripts or recent grade reports. Copy of most recent Individual Educational Plan (IEP)* or Section 504 Plan £ Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) 1399 Form or minute order

Message from our Principal

Dear Apperson Parents,

We hope you and your loved ones are healthy and well.

As you know, LAUSD will be closed through May 1, 2020. To ensure instructional continuity, the Apperson staff has come up with a plan to help students keep learning.

The tool that we will use to share instructional lessons and assignments through May 1, 2020 will be ClassDojo.

If you have not received an invitation to join your child’s ClassDojo yet, you will receive one on or before the end of Friday March 27, 2020.

Once you receive this invitation from your child’s teacher, please create a parent account.

Moving forward, this will be the main way by which classroom teachers will communicate with parents and share student resources and assignments.

We are asking all parents to create a parent account by Sunday March 29, 2020 so that we can begin to communicate with all parents and share instructional resources and assignments with all students.

Our goal is simple: to continue supporting our students and families during these challenging times.

We ask for your patience and support as we roll out this plan.

We promise to keep things simple during the first few weeks to make sure this is a positive experience for everyone.

As we evolve, we will share more instructional resources with you and all students. We are all in this together.

These are challenging times for all families, especially if you’re worried that your child does not have a device to access online lessons and learning opportunities. To assist families, LAUSD will as soon as it is possible be providing devices with internet connection to all students. Charter to Offer Free Access to Spectrum Broadband and Wi-Fi for 60 Days for New K-12 and College Student Households and More
In the coming weeks, many Americans will be affected either directly or indirectly by COVID-19 and Charter is focused on serving and supporting our 29 million customers. Americans rely on high speed broadband in nearly every aspect of their lives and Charter is committed to ensuring our customers maintain reliable access to the online resources and information they want and need. To ease the strain in this challenging time, beginning Monday, March 16, Charter commits to the following for 60 days:

Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription and at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.
Charter will partner with school districts to ensure local communities are aware of these tools to help students learn remotely. Charter will continue to offer Spectrum Internet Assist, high speed broadband program to eligible low-income households delivering speeds of 30 Mbps. Charter will open its Wi-Fi hotspots across our footprint for public use.
Spectrum does not have data caps or hidden fees.

As the country works collaboratively to contain this pandemic, broadband internet access will be increasingly essential to ensuring that people across the country are able to learn and work remotely, that businesses can continue to serve customers, and that Americans stay connected and engaged with family and friends.

Good Afternoon Apperson Parents,

We would like to remind you that LAUSD will continue to provide meals for families at 60 Grab and Go Food Centers located around the District.

The centers will now be open from 7 a.m. to 11a.m.

LDNE Grab and Go centers are located at Byrd MS, San Fernando HS, Maclay MS, Verdugo Hills HS, East Valley HS, Romer MS, Van Nuys HS, Fulton College Prep, and Panorama HS.
